Residents of Jalingo were thrown into a state of panic on Monday following a fresh fire outbreak at the Baba Ya’u CBN Bypass.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:08 p.m., marking the second major fire to hit the state capital within the span of just a few hours.

Earlier that same day, a similar fire had been recorded in the Magami area of the city. The quick succession of these outbreaks caused significant concern among locals, prompting an immediate response from the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Taraba State Command to prevent further escalation.

Preliminary investigations by the fire service revealed that the blaze was triggered by bush burning in the vicinity. The fire reportedly went out of control and spread rapidly into a nearby residential compound, highlighting the dangers of uncontrolled burning during the dry season.

The inferno specifically affected a three-bedroom apartment belonging to Alhaji ASK Mai Tulare. The property, which measured approximately 50 by 100 feet, was being used for residential purposes at the time the flames took hold of the structure.

Upon receiving a distress call, a firefighting crew led by ASFII Solomon Bello was deployed to the scene. The team utilized Fire Appliance FFS 206 to launch an aggressive suppression operation, successfully containing the flames before they could spread to adjacent buildings.

The Command’s spokesperson, Sylvanus Mikailu, confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident. He noted that the swift intervention of the firefighters saved properties estimated to be worth at least ₦10 million from being destroyed.

Following the incident, the Federal Fire Service urged Taraba residents to prioritize fire safety by installing basic firefighting equipment in their homes. They also cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning to prevent similar emergencies and safeguard lives and property in the state.
