Zulum Urges Muslims, Christians to Pray as Insecurity Rises in Borno
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has appealed to both Muslim and Christian residents of the state to intensify prayers as insecurity continues to trouble parts of the region.
The appeal was conveyed on Monday in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya.
Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj, encouraged Muslims to take advantage of the final ten days of Ramadan to pray fervently for peace, particularly during the late-night Tahajjud prayers.
During his stay in the Holy Land, the governor joined other members of the Muslim community in a special prayer session seeking lasting peace for Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.
Zulum said the recent wave of coordinated attacks by Boko Haram insurgents should strengthen the determination of residents rather than weaken their resolve. He stressed that the period remains one of deep reflection, supplication and renewed faith.
The governor also urged the Christian community observing the Lenten season to participate in prayers for peace and stability, describing the current security challenges as a moment that should bring people together in unity against a common threat.
He expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the recent violence and assured residents that the state government would continue working closely with the military and other security agencies to address insurgency and terrorism.
Over the past five days, several communities across the state have experienced repeated attacks by terrorists.
The affected areas include Ngoshe, Konduga, Mainok, Kukawa, Goniri and Delwa.
