Tinubu Celebrates Nigerian Women, Promises Greater Opportunities

President Bola Amed Tinubu has commended the contributions of Nigerian women to national development, pledging that his administration will continue to create opportunities that enable them to thrive.

In a statement issued on Sunday to mark International Women’s Day 2026, the president celebrated women both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, acknowledging their vital role in shaping the country’s progress.

Tinubu said the responsibility of government and society is to ensure an environment where girls have access to education, women can achieve economic success and citizens can actively participate in national development.

“Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the women of Nigeria, at home and abroad,” the president said.

He noted that across homes, markets, workplaces and leadership positions, Nigerian women continue to demonstrate resilience, courage and determination that help sustain the nation.

According to the president, women serve as caregivers, entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders who contribute significantly to the country’s growth and stability.

Tinubu also highlighted the historical role of women in Nigeria’s development, noting that the country’s progress has consistently reflected the efforts of women who challenged societal limitations and worked to improve their communities.

He pointed out that from those who contributed to the nation’s democratic struggle to women supporting families and communities across the country, their contributions remain central to nation-building.

“When Nigerian women rise, Nigeria rises,” he added.

Meanwhile, several state governors also joined in celebrating women across the country, praising their contributions to social and economic development.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said his administration remains committed to expanding opportunities for women in governance, entrepreneurship and community development.

Similarly, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State described women in his state as resilient and hardworking, noting that they play a vital role in sectors such as agriculture, education, commerce and public service.

Otu said women across farms, markets, schools, industries and public institutions continue to shape the development of Cross River State through dedication and commitment to progress.
