The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of his Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative), Dunkwu Chamberlain Nnamdi.
Abbas described the development as shocking and devastating, noting that the late aide died in active service to the country.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker said he received the news of Nnamdi’s death in the early hours of the day with deep sadness.
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative), Dr. Dunkwu Chamberlain Nnamdi,” Abbas said.
The Speaker described the deceased as a loyal and dependable associate who remained dedicated to his duties until his final moments. He noted that the late Nnamdi had joined him and other colleagues for the breaking of fast on Friday evening, only hours before his passing.
According to Abbas, the loss is painful not only to his office but also to the family and associates of the late aide who worked closely with him.
Nnamdi, who hailed from Uteh Okpu community in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, was also the President of the Nigerian Aquatics Federation. He would have turned 55 on March 21.
Abbas said the deceased left behind a legacy of dedication, selflessness and sacrifice, adding that he would be greatly missed by colleagues and associates.
The Speaker, who visited the family of the deceased to condole with his widow and children, prayed that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
“This is indeed a moment of grief for me, my colleagues, his family and the staff in my office as we mourn the death of this wonderful human being,” he said, adding that the late aide lived a life devoted to service to humanity and the nation.
Nnamdi was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) to the Speaker on June 26, 2023. Before the appointment, he served as Special Adviser on Members’ Affairs to the Speaker of the 9th Assembly and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
