Peter Obi, Senators Join ADC Membership Revalidation Exercise in Anambra
Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Saturday participated in the membership registration and revalidation exercise of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, urging Nigerians and opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which began in Awka, attracted several prominent political figures and party stakeholders in the state.
Speaking at the event, Obi encouraged Nigerians to engage actively in the political process, stressing that citizens’ participation is essential for ensuring accountability, transparency and responsible leadership.
He also called on opposition political parties to work together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
According to him, the next general election will represent more than a contest among political parties, describing it instead as a choice between Nigerians seeking better governance and the continuation of poor leadership.
Following the launch of the exercise in Awka, Obi moved to Agulu, where he completed his personal membership validation and encouraged other party supporters to do the same.
“Our message is simple, meaningful change begins with participation,” he stated in a message shared on social media after the event.
Also speaking, a former governorship candidate of the ADC in Anambra State, John Nwosu, described the membership registration and revalidation exercise as a significant step toward strengthening the party’s grassroots structure.
He noted that the initiative would help prepare the party for future elections and urged both existing members and new supporters across the state to participate in the process.
Nwosu further stated that the party’s objective is to build strong political support that could lead to Obi becoming Nigeria’s president.
Other notable figures present at the event included Victor Umeh, senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District; Tony Nwoye, senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District; and Oseloka Obaze, a former Secretary to the Anambra State Governme
Several federal lawmakers also attended the programme, including five members of the House of Representatives and six members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, alongside other party stakeholders.
