NUJ Partners Ajayi Crowther University to Provide Practical Training for Mass Communication Students

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has partnered with Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, to provide practical media training for students of the institution’s Mass Communication Department.

The initiative is designed to strengthen students’ professional skills and expose them to real-life journalism practice beyond theoretical classroom instruction.

Under the arrangement, 300-level and final-year Mass Communication students will participate in hands-on training that will familiarise them with newsroom operations, field reporting and other aspects of contemporary journalism practice.

The programme aims to equip participants with practical knowledge of modern media work and improve their readiness for professional careers after graduation.

The mentorship scheme will involve leaders of the NUJ from both Oyo and Ogun State councils and is scheduled to begin in May.

Speaking on the partnership, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Ebunoluwa Oduwole, said the institution remains committed to producing graduates who are well prepared for the demands of the labour market.

She noted that the collaboration would help close the gap between academic instruction and practical training for Mass Communication students, adding that the university consistently structures its academic programmes to align with current industry realities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ in Oyo State, Akeem Abas, while presenting the proposal to the vice-chancellor, said the partnership would enhance the competence and performance of graduates from the institution.

According to him, the programme will provide students with practical newsroom experience and deepen their understanding of the professional demands of journalism.

Abas also commended the management of the university for maintaining a cordial relationship with the union over the years and praised the institution’s progress since its establishment more than two decades ago.

Other officials present at the meeting included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Olumuyiwa Popoola; the university’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi; and executive members of the NUJ Oyo State Council.
