The Nigerian Army is mourning the loss of a Lieutenant Colonel and a Captain killed during separate terrorist attacks in Borno and Katsina states.
The fallen officers were described as brave patriots who made the supreme sacrifice while leading their troops in defense of the nation.
In Borno State, a Lieutenant Colonel serving as a commanding officer was killed when remnants of Boko Haram launched coordinated night assaults on multiple communities. The Army successfully repelled the attackers but confirmed that the officer and several soldiers lost their lives during the fierce battle.
Simultaneously in Katsina State, Captain Paul Hassan and two other soldiers were killed during an encounter with notorious bandits in the Danmusa Local Government Area. The clash occurred as military personnel acted on credible intelligence to disrupt the criminals’ operations.
Despite the heavy losses, the military recorded significant victories, neutralizing over 45 terrorists across the two states. In Katsina, the operation resulted in the elimination of top bandit leaders, including Alti, the second-in-command to notorious kingpin Adamu Alieru.
The Army has officially debunked reports claiming that over 40 soldiers were killed in the Borno attacks, labeling such figures as exaggerated and misleading. They maintained that while officers were lost, the troops were not overrun and fought gallantly to protect innocent civilians.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno have both extended their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. They pledged continued state support for the military and the families left behind by these national heroes.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has ordered an immediate reinforcement of troops and additional equipment to the affected regions. The military remains on high alert, vowing to maintain operational momentum until all terrorist elements are completely neutralized.
