IGP Set-up New Counter-Terrorism Bases in Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun

The Inspector General of Police,IGP Olatunji Disu has approved new Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) bases in Adamawa, Cross River, and Ogun States. This expansion aims to intensify the fight against terrorism and banditry nationwide.

Regarding the move, the IGP stated, “The training initiative reflects the determination of this administration to continually upscale the operational capacity of officers of the Force in responding effectively to evolving security threats.”

Additional CTU personnel are being deployed to strategic locations to enhance rapid response capabilities. The goal is to provide more effective security coverage in regions vulnerable to insurgent activities.

The announcement followed a two-week specialized training program in Close Quarter Battle and Intelligence Analysis. Personnel were trained to sharpen their combat and analytical skills for modern security threats.

The initiative was a collaboration with the British High Commission’s West Africa counter-terrorism office. This partnership integrates international best practices into Nigeria’s domestic law enforcement operations.

IGP Disu, represented by AIG Akoh Gabriel, emphasized the need to constantly upgrade the force’s operational capacity. He noted that evolving threats require a sophisticated and proactive policing approach.

The IGP expressed gratitude to the British Government for its strategic support and partnership. He reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to deploying all necessary resources to protect the nation.

Fifty-six officers completed the training, gaining expertise in contemporary tactics and coordinated responses. These personnel are now better equipped for intelligence-driven operations in the field.
