Atletico Best Real Sociedad 3-2 as Barcelona, Real Madrid in Key La Liga Wins

Atletico Madrid have claimed a dramatic 3–2 victory over Real Sociedad, with substitute Nico Gonzalez scoring twice to seal a thrilling La Liga win at the Metropolitano Stadium.

The hosts opened scoring after five minutes when Alexander Sorloth converted a flick from Jose Maria Gimenez following a long throw by Giuliano Simeone.

Real Sociedad responded almost immediately as Carlos Soler fired home four minutes later.

Gonzalez restored Atletico’s advantage in the 67th minute, curling in after a clever backheel assist from Antoine Griezmann, but Sociedad equalised again when Mikel Oyarzabal beat Jan Oblak from the edge of the box.

The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute when Gonzalez powered in a header from Matteo Ruggeri’s cross, giving coach Diego Simeone’s side all three points ahead of their upcoming Copa del Rey Final clash with Sociedad.

Elsewhere, Barcelona maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table with a narrow 1–0 victory over Athletic Club at the San Mames Stadium.

Teenage star Lamine Yamal scored the only goal of the match in the 68th minute, curling a superb effort into the net to secure the win for coach Hansi Flick’s side. Athletic pushed for an equaliser late on, but Oihan Sancet missed their best chance as Barcelona held firm.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid kept the pressure on the leaders with a late 2–1 victory over Celta Vigo.

Madrid went ahead in the 11th minute when Aurelien Tchouameni finished from a pass by Arda Guler, but the hosts equalised in the 25th minute through Borja Iglesias after being set up by Williot Swedberg.

With the match heading for a draw, Federico Valverde struck a deflected winner deep into stoppage time to keep Madrid within one point of Barcelona, though they have played a game more.

In other matches, Osasuna fought back late to earn a 2–2 draw with Mallorca. Vedat Muriqi had given Mallorca a two-goal lead with strikes in the 35th and 61st minutes before late goals from Kike Barja and Ante Budimir rescued a point for the hosts. Both sides finished with 10 men after red cards to David Garcia and Marc Virgili.

Levante and Girona also shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw. Espi put Levante ahead in the 50th minute, but Girona salvaged a point when Roca scored deep into stoppage time. Levante’s Jon Olasagasti was sent off in the second half.
