Army Rescues Kidnapped Unity Bank Staff in Benue-Taraba Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully rescued two bank employees who were kidnapped in Benue State.
The victims were found in Gborgbor Village, located within the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The rescued individuals were identified as 40-year-old Marwan Abubakar and 37-year-old Leng’en Cakop. Both men are staff members of Unity Bank and were originally abducted from Zaki-Biam in the Ukum Local Government Area.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the military launched an aggressive search and rescue mission to locate the captives. Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the spokesperson for the task force, confirmed that the operation was specifically aimed at dismantling the criminal hideout.
During the initial phase of the rescue, soldiers conducted house-to-house searches within Gborgbor Village. Although the kidnappers were not immediately found, further intelligence confirmed that they were still hiding in the immediate vicinity.
To ensure a successful outcome, the Sub-Sector Commander deployed additional reinforcements to comb the area and nearby settlements. This increased military presence put significant pressure on the criminal elements, forcing them to abandon their victims.
The kidnappers fled into the surrounding bushes to avoid a direct confrontation with the advancing troops. Following their retreat, the two bank staff were safely recovered, and a motorcycle used by the criminals was seized.
Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander, praised the troops for their professionalism and the speed of their response. He emphasized that the success of the mission was a result of effective, intelligence-led strategies.
