The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, for allegedly killing his guardian, a woman identified as Akanbi, who had raised him in Ilorin.
The suspect reportedly carried out the attack after a previous attempt to poison her failed to achieve his goal.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo disclosed that the arrest followed a distress report regarding the discovery of the victim’s body in a pool of blood. Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf hid behind a door and attacked his guardian while she was bathing in her residence.
The suspect allegedly used several household items to commit the crime, including a frying pan, a weighing scale, and a kitchen turning stick (spatula). Police also recovered kitchen knives from the scene that were reportedly used during the violent assault on the victim.
During police interrogation, Yusuf confessed to the killing, citing deep-seated resentment toward the woman as his primary motive. He admitted to the command that he had initially tried to poison her before resorting to a physical attack with the household tools.
Following the act, the teenager allegedly changed his blood-stained clothes and left the house under the guise of running an errand to cover his tracks. He later contacted the victim’s husband, who eventually discovered his wife’s lifeless body upon returning home.
The police commissioner confirmed that the household items used in the murder have been recovered as evidence. These tools were presented at a press briefing in Ilorin, highlighting the brutal nature of the crime committed by the minor in the home.
Gobri Yusuf currently remains in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The command stated that the case will be handled according to the law once all findings are concluded and the legal process begins.
