PSC Elevates Seven AIGs to DIG Rank as Frank Mba Bows Out After 34 Years

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs).

This decision followed a rigorous process involving written examinations and oral interviews at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The newly promoted DIGs include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, and Isyaku Mohammed. Others elevated to the high rank are Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.

The PSC stated that these promotions are based on merit, seniority, and an impressive record of service. The move aims to strengthen the leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force and fill strategic vacancies.

These vacancies were created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously held these key positions. PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu urged the new officers to prioritize national security and maintain high professional standards.

In a related development, DIG Frank Mba has officially retired from the Nigeria Police Force after 34 years of service. Mba retired alongside other senior officers following the confirmation of Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector General.

Mba’s career was marked by excellence, starting as the best academic cadet at the Nigeria Police Academy. He served as the Force Public Relations Officer and held command positions in Ogun State and various Lagos areas.

Beyond operations, Mba is a highly educated officer with a law degree from the University of Lagos and a Master’s from the University of Dundee. He also attended prestigious programs at the FBI Academy and Harvard University.

In his farewell address, Mba thanked President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation. His retirement marks the end of a distinguished era for one of Nigeria’s most recognizable and intellectual police officers.
