Gunmen recently stormed the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, kidnapping 10 residents across the Ahun and Oro-Ago communities.
The abductions occurred early Wednesday morning, with six people taken from Ahun and four others from the Oro-Ago and Oyate areas.
Among those seized in Ahun were a sawmill operator, Clement Emmanuel, and his apprentice, Solomon, while they were working on a farm.
Two other victims, identified as Adewole and Adebayo, were kidnapped while preparing to produce charcoal.
The kidnappers have reportedly contacted the family of one victim, demanding a ₦10 million ransom for their release. Mrs. Emmanuel, the sawmill operator’s wife, pleaded for help, stating she has no way to raise such a significant amount.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, stated that while he had not been officially briefed on the latest kidnappings, his men are active in the area. He noted that intelligence-led operations had already been conducted in Oro-Ago to thwart a kidnapping syndicate.
The police operation resulted in the arrest of ten suspects, including a mechanic and a logistics operative allegedly supporting the criminals.
Officers also recovered ten motorcycles believed to be used for kidnapping and banditry activities.
In a separate success, the State Police Command arrested the kidnappers responsible for a previous attack on construction workers along Owu Falls Road. The suspects were traced and apprehended after one of the victims’ stolen mobile phones was detected through digital tracking.
The Police Commissioner also revealed the arrest of a 23-year-old female kidnapper, Awawu Maliki Bodo, in possession of a revolver and live ammunition. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the Ifelodun LGA.
The Command continues to investigate these incidents to identify and arrest other accomplices. Sustained operational efforts remain a priority as the police work to restore safety to the affected communities.
