C’River Sports Commission Unveils Support Group for Tinubu, Otu Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Cross River State Sports Commission has unveiled a support group aimed at mobilising grassroots backing for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Bassey Otu in the 2027 general elections.
The group, known as the “Sport Community Support Group,” was inaugurated in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, as part of efforts to rally athletes, sports administrators and enthusiasts across the state to support the two leaders.
Chairman of the commission, Lawrence Etta, said the initiative was designed to harness the influence of the sports community to promote the policies and programmes of both the federal and state governments while strengthening grassroots political mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to him, sports remain a powerful tool for unity and engagement, capable of bringing people together regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences. Etta urged members of the newly formed group to remain committed to the task of mobilising support across communities and local government areas in the state.
We believe the sports community has a critical role to play in promoting good governance and mobilising citizens. This group will serve as a platform to consolidate support for President Tinubu and Governor Otu ahead of the 2027 elections,” he said.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the commission, Obi Akan, described the formation of the support group as a strategic move to deepen grassroots participation in the political process.
Akan said coordinators and members would embark on awareness campaigns and community engagement activities aimed at strengthening support for the two leaders across the state.
