Plateau APC Reelects Rufus Bature as Chairman at State Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has reelected Rufus Bature as its state chairperson during a well-attended congress held on Tuesday in Jos, the state capital.
The exercise, which drew party stakeholders and delegates from the 17 local government areas of the state, was described by officials as peaceful and largely conducted by consensus.
Among those present at the congress were Governor Caleb Mutfwang, his deputy Josephine Piyo, members of the National and State Assemblies, local government party leaders, and accredited delegates. Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the process.
Chairperson of the State Congress Committee, Oscar Yelwa, said the successful conduct of the congress reflected the unity within the Plateau APC and demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy. He added that the congress formally inaugurated a new state executive that will pilot the affairs of the party ahead of future electoral contests.
In his acceptance speech, Bature thanked delegates and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to reposition and strengthen the party as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
He said the new executive would focus on rebuilding grassroots structures, fostering reconciliation among aggrieved members, and mobilising support across communities in the state.
Bature, a seasoned party administrator, has previously served in key roles under former governors Joshua Dariye and Simon Lalong, as well as during the current administration. He described his reelection as a renewed mandate to
