Coalitions Accuses Lagos Police Chief of Bias, Demands Retraction of ‘Wanted’ Notice

A coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs), working alongside the Centre for Citizens Rights, has strongly criticized the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, for what they describe as procedural lapses, bias, and an unfair media trial in the case involving Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen, Chairman of the Ojomu Youth Forum in Ajiran Town, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

At a press briefing held in Lagos recently, coalition chairman Comrade Adeyemi Olorunshogo described the police allegations against Tajudeen as baseless and lacking proper foundation.

The group emphasized that Tajudeen, portrayed as a prominent philanthropist who sponsors education for underprivileged children and provides regular support to widows and vulnerable members of the Ojomu Royal Family, was never formally invited for questioning by the police.

They further noted that no court warrant or judicial order was obtained before his image was publicly displayed and he was declared wanted during a February 20, 2026, press conference by the Commissioner.

The accusations link Tajudeen to the sponsorship of two high-profile murders in the Ajiran community: that of Sheriff Ishola Salami (also known as Sheriff Salami Agboworin), killed on April 18, 2023, in Moba Town near Ajiran, and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye (son of the Ojomu of Ajiran Land), who was fatally shot on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Drive in Lekki.

The Lagos State Police Command, citing confessions from two arrested suspects—Safiu Fatai (alias Fabo) and Yusuf Ismaila (alias Bariga)—declared Tajudeen wanted alongside others, including Soji Mascot, Kenny, and Bode. Authorities have tied the killings to longstanding land disputes and activities involving suspected land-grabbers in the area, with renewed investigations leading to breakthroughs in early 2026.

The coalition argued that Tajudeen was abroad during some of the incidents and that previous similar accusations against him and other youth forum members had been fully investigated and exonerated by the same police command.

They condemned the public declaration as a violation of fair hearing principles and accused the Commissioner of showing compromise in handling the matter.

In response, the group has issued several demands: an immediate retraction of the “wanted” declaration, transfer of the investigation to an independent police unit or external body to ensure impartiality, the Commissioner’s recusal from the case, and full adherence to due process.

They issued a seven-day ultimatum for compliance, warning that failure to meet the demands could trigger mass protests across Lagos.

The controversy has deepened divisions in the Ajiran community. While some residents and youths have held solidarity rallies commending the police for reviving dormant cases and pushing for justice, others, including supporters of the Ojomu Youth Forum, have rallied behind Tajudeen, petitioning against the police approach and highlighting his community contributions.

The Lagos State Police Command has not yet issued an official response to the coalition’s latest claims or the protest threat.

The matter underscores broader issues of land-related conflicts, communal leadership tensions, and the need for transparent criminal investigations in Lagos communities. As calls for an unbiased probe grow, stakeholders on all sides urge calm to prevent escalation while justice is pursued.
