US Claims Destruction of Iranian Naval Vessels Amid Escalating Middle East Hostilities

The United States has reported destroying several Iranian naval vessels following escalating military exchanges in the Middle East.

According to a statement from United States Central Command, one Iranian ship was previously sunk in the Gulf of Oman as part of ongoing operations.

Donald Trump later announced on social media that American forces had sunk nine Iranian naval ships, describing some of the vessels as large and strategically significant. He stated that additional targets would be pursued, claiming further operations against Iran’s naval capabilities.

Trump also asserted that US forces had struck Iran’s naval headquarters in a separate attack, adding that the country’s remaining naval assets would “soon be floating at the bottom of the sea.”

Iranian authorities have not confirmed the loss of nine ships and independent verification of the claims remains unavailable.

Earlier reports from US military officials indicated the sinking of an Iranian vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

The maritime confrontations come amid broader hostilities that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, which Iran responded to with missile attacks on Israeli and regional US facilities.

Iran previously claimed that its missiles struck the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, though US officials denied the assertion, stating that all incoming missiles were intercepted and no damage occurred.

The wider conflict has resulted in significant casualties. Iranian authorities reported over 250 deaths, including senior military figures and schoolgirls killed when missiles reportedly struck a school.

The United States confirmed the deaths of three soldiers, while Israel acknowledged 10 fatalities from missile attacks.

Analysts warn that continued military escalation could further destabilise the region and impact global energy and economic markets.
