Togolese Woman Arrested With 5,000 Tramadol Pills

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a Togolese woman at the Seme border in Lagos for allegedly trafficking 5,000 tablets of Tramadol concealed in her luggage.

The agency announced the arrest, stating that the suspect was intercepted at the departure terminal during routine checks.

Authorities said the pills were hidden in her baggage, raising concerns about cross-border drug trafficking at major entry points.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers recovered 1,040 kilograms of skunk referring to a strain of cannabis from an abandoned building in Akodo village, Seaside Eleko, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. The discovery highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit drug storage and distribution networks.

Elsewhere, operatives arrested a suspect in Kano State with 1,499 bottles of codeine syrup. The consignment was found in a Volkswagen Golf vehicle during an interception in Lambu, Tofa Local Government Area.

Another suspect was apprehended in Katsina State while transporting 87.4 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus along the Zaria-Dutsinma road. Authorities said the operation followed intelligence on drug movement across state routes.

In Osun State, two individuals identified as 40-year-old Adewale Fatunmise and 25-year-old Adebisi Korede were arrested in connection with the seizure of 18.085 kilograms of skunk in Osogbo.

The agency said investigations are ongoing to determine their roles in the distribution network.

NDLEA operatives also intercepted 637,600 opioid pills, including Tramadol and other controlled substances, during an operation in Taraba State. The drugs were concealed in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle en route to a location in Gashaka Local Government Area.

Additional seizures included 126.022 kilograms of skunk in Taraba and 499.2 kilograms of cannabis recovered in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory. A suspect was also arrested in Borno State with 7,000 capsules of Tramadol while traveling in a commercial vehicle.

The agency reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse through enforcement operations and public education initiatives under its War Against Drug Abuse programme.

Officials said sensitisation efforts continue in schools and communities nationwide to discourage drug misuse.
