A woman in an Imo State community has been officially banished after being accused of selling her sister-in-law’s young son for the sum of ₦800,000.
The shocking betrayal sparked immediate outrage among the villagers, who gathered in large numbers to enforce traditional justice.
In a viral video capturing the incident, the accused woman was seen being escorted out of the community by a mob of angry residents. The crowd can be heard chanting and expressing their disgust at the “abominable” act of trafficking a family member for profit.
The incident reportedly came to light after the child’s mother raised an alarm over his sudden disappearance, leading to a confrontation that implicated the relative.
It is alleged that the suspect had already handed the child over to unknown buyers before her involvement was uncovered by the community.
Elders and youth leaders of the village stated that the decision to exile her was necessary to cleanse the land of such “evil” and to serve as a stern warning to others.
They emphasized that the safety of their children is a sacred duty that must be protected at all costs.
While the community has taken traditional action, local police have been briefed to ensure the suspect faces formal prosecution and to facilitate the safe recovery of the missing boy. Authorities are currently working on leads to track down the individuals who purchased the child.
