Governor Rescues 140 Pupils From Fire at Nooroh-Haq School

About 140 pupils were safely evacuated after a fire broke out at Nooroh-Haq School in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday night.

The rescue operation was initiated when the convoy of Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris noticed smoke rising from the school premises while passing by. The governor immediately ordered his vehicle to stop and supervised the evacuation of the children to a safer location.

Addressing journalists at the scene, Idris explained that he initially suspected the smoke might be from burning refuse but later realised it was coming from the school. He and members of his entourage intervened to ensure the pupils were moved to safety before the fire escalated.

According to him, the school housed more than 140 children at the time of the incident.

The governor further revealed that gas cylinders were found within the school premises, which complicated efforts to extinguish the blaze. Fire service personnel were deployed to contain the inferno and prevent further damage.

Although no casualties were reported, the incident raised concerns about safety measures in educational institutions.

Authorities have not disclosed the full extent of the damage, but the swift action of the governor and emergency responders averted what could have been a more severe disaster.

The affected school and relevant agencies are expected to conduct an assessment to determine the cause of the fire and prevent future occurrences.
