Dangote Cement Seals $1bn Deal with Sinoma for 12 New African Plants

Dangote Cement Plc has signed a strategic framework agreement valued at over $1 billion with Sinoma International Engineering for the construction of 12 new cement plants and the expansion of existing facilities across Africa.

The agreement, announced in Lagos, marks one of the largest industrial expansion moves by the cement giant in recent years and is aimed at significantly boosting production capacity across key African markets.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Cement, Aliko Dangote, described the deal as a critical step in strengthening the company’s footprint on the continent.

He said the new projects would enhance operational efficiency, increase output, and position the company to meet rising demand driven by infrastructure growth in several African countries.

Under the agreement, Sinoma will handle engineering, procurement and construction for the new plants as well as upgrades to existing production lines.

The projects will span multiple countries, including new and brownfield developments designed to close supply gaps and reduce reliance on cement imports.

Chairman of the company’s board, Emmanuel Ikazoboh, noted that the expansion aligns with Dangote Cement’s long-term growth strategy and its ambition to raise total production capacity to about 80 million tonnes per annum by 2030.

He said the investment reflects confidence in Africa’s economic prospects and infrastructure pipeline.

Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, added that the new plants will not only increase output but also introduce modern, energy-efficient technology to improve sustainability and cost competitiveness across operations.

Industry analysts say the $1 billion deal further consolidates Dangote Cement’s position as Africa’s largest cement producer and underscores deepening industrial cooperation between African manufacturers and Chinese engineering firms.
