Police Arrest Six Over Alleged Miracle Scam in Ondo

The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested six persons over an alleged miracle scam in Idanre, where they were accused of posing as clerics to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspects identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola were apprehended during what police described as an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, added that the suspects allegedly presented themselves as religious leaders and staged fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the confidence of victims.

He said the group targeted individuals facing financial, health and personal challenges, promising divine solutions in exchange for money and other valuables.

“During interrogation, it was gathered that the suspects operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles to create a convincing façade of legitimacy. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the total number of victims, the financial magnitude of the fraud, and identify other collaborators who may still be at large,” Abayomi stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, verify religious or spiritual claims, and avoid making financial commitments based on unverified assurances.

He also encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Abayomi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state, noting that sustained intelligence gathering and collaboration with community stakeholders would continue to guide efforts to protect lives and property across Ondo State.
