Lagos in Phased Closure of Lekki-Epe Expressway for Repairs
By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa
The Lagos State Government has announced a total closure of the Epe-bound carriageway of the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, stretching from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge.
This closure is essential to facilitate uninterrupted rehabilitation and construction works along this busy corridor.
Traffic will be diverted to the Lagos-bound side using a flexible lane-sharing system. Between 5 am and 10 am, two lanes will prioritize Lagos-bound traffic; from 3 pm to 3 am, two lanes will be dedicated to Epe-bound commuters to ease peak-period congestion.
Motorists are strongly advised to use the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road as a primary alternative route. Furthermore, specific intersections will face full eight-hour closures at night during asphalt laying operations to ensure the safety of workers and the quality of the road surface.
The repair work is divided into specific phases, with durations ranging from 5 to 13 days per segment. The project starts at Admiralty Way and progresses through Maruwa, Freedom Way, Jakande, and Chevron, eventually concluding at the Ajah Jubilee Bridge.
To ensure order, LASTMA officials and other traffic personnel will be strategically deployed along the construction zones.
Tow trucks will also be stationed on-site to provide immediate clearance for vehicle breakdowns or emergencies that might block traffic.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials and strictly follow diversion signage. He noted that these repairs are a vital follow-up to the recently completed works on the opposite Lagos-bound stretch.
