Gombe Approves N5bn for Street Naming, House Numbering, Signages

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Gombe State Executive Council has approved a ₦5 billion contract for comprehensive street naming, house numbering, and signage installation.

This move aims to modernize urban planning and improve service delivery across the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Njodi, announced the decision following the 52nd Council meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.

The project addresses the historical difficulty of navigating the state’s growing urban centers.

The government awarded the project to specialized consultants after a competitive bidding process. The total investment is split across three contracts to ensure the work meets global best practices for urban identification.

This initiative is designed to make Gombe as easy to navigate as advanced societies. Officials noted that clear signage will ensure finding addresses is no longer a challenge for residents, visitors, or businesses.

Standardized house numbering will also play a critical role in security coordination and emergency services. It provides a reliable framework for planning, revenue administration, and rapid response during crises.

Governor Yahaya described the reform as a “futuristic” step toward modern governance. The administration is committed to replacing outdated systems with efficient, data-driven tools that support long-term state growth.

The project is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Beyond its functional benefits, it is anticipated to enhance the aesthetic appeal and investment potential of Gombe State.
