Ex-Kano Commissioners Sue Over Seized Vehicles

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Five former Kano commissioners, including Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, have sued the state government over the forceful seizure of their official vehicles.

The legal action targets the state’s anti-corruption commission following a series of raids.

The group resigned after Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection from the NNPP to the APC. They have accused the administration of using state agencies to intimidate and embarrass them for their political stance.

The plaintiffs alleged that operatives invaded their homes and seized both official and personal cars belonging to their spouses. They described the move as a gross violation of family privacy and personal liberty.

The former officials argue that the 2023 Revenue Mobilization Act entitles them to keep the vehicles. They noted that other resigned colleagues were previously allowed to retain theirs without any harassment.

The PCACC Chairman maintains the recovery was legal and backed by a court order. He claimed the former commissioners failed to comply with multiple official directives to return the vehicles.

This legal dispute has heightened political tension between Governor Yusuf’s administration and Kwankwasiyya loyalists. The plaintiffs are now seeking a court order for the immediate return of the seized property.
