The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered 197 sachets of suspected tramadol during an intelligence-driven border patrol operation in Fufore Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were reportedly intercepted by operatives of the Border Patrol Unit while on routine surveillance along a suspected cross-border trafficking route. Police authorities said the suspects were conveying the substance in a concealed package when they were arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the tramadol was allegedly transported from a South-Eastern part of Nigeria and was being smuggled through Adamawa State into Cameroon.
The police further identified the suspects as 32-year-old Muhammad Mustapha from Dorayi in Kano State and 48-year-old Muhammad Sanusi from Garoua in Cameroon.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism. He reiterated the command’s commitment to strengthening border security and intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and other trans-border crimes.
The police said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation, while urging residents to provide useful intelligence that could help security agencies combat criminal activities in the state.
