Nigeria Now China’s Largest Export Destination in Africa
By Rachel Akper
Nigeria has emerged as China’s biggest export destination in Africa in 2025, recording $24.91 billion worth of goods, according to newly released trade figures.
The data shows Nigeria leading other African economies in the value of imports from China, underscoring the country’s growing commercial ties with Beijing and its strong demand for Chinese manufactured products, machinery, electronics and industrial equipment.
South Africa followed closely with $22.99 billion in Chinese exports, while Egypt recorded $19.97 billion. Liberia also posted a significant figure of $19.58 billion, ranking among the top recipients of Chinese goods on the continent.
Other major destinations for Chinese exports included Algeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Morocco and Guinea, all of which recorded multi-billion dollar import values from China within the year under review.
Economic observers attribute Nigeria’s top position to its large consumer market, expanding infrastructure projects and increasing reliance on imported industrial inputs. China has remained Africa’s largest trading partner in recent years, supplying goods ranging from construction materials and automobiles to telecommunications equipment and household items.
Nigeria’s position at the top of the ranking highlights its strategic importance in China Africa trade relations and reflects the deepening economic engagement between both countries in 2025.
