Tragedy struck the Igieduma community in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State as gunmen attacked the residence of a local chief.

The assailants shot and killed the traditional leader during the violent invasion of his home.

After killing the chief, the gunmen forcefully abducted his two daughters, fleeing with them into the nearby forest.

The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as a prominent figure within the local traditional council.

Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived under the cover of darkness, catching the household off guard. The sounds of sporadic shouting and gunfire caused panic throughout the community, with residents fleeing for safety.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and deployed a tactical team to the area.

Authorities are currently scouring the bushes and surrounding forests in an intensive search-and-rescue operation to secure the girls’ release.

Community leaders have expressed deep shock and called on the government to bolster security in rural areas. The attack is the latest in a series of kidnapping incidents that have sparked fear among residents across the state.

While no ransom demand has been made yet, the police are working with local vigilante groups to track the perpetrators.

The state government has vowed to bring the killers to justice and ensure the safe return of the abducted daughters.
