Tinubu Urges Governors to Prioritise Poor, Empower Vulnerable Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors across the country to prioritise the welfare of the poor and design policies that directly empower underprivileged Nigerians.

The President made the appeal during a meeting with governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he emphasised the need for compassionate leadership, particularly during the Ramadan and Lenten seasons. Tinubu urged governors to implement practical programmes that would ease hardship at the grassroots, stressing that leadership must translate into measurable improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens. He noted that millions of vulnerable Nigerians are looking up to elected leaders for support amid ongoing economic reforms. According to him, policies must cut across religious, ethnic, and political lines to ensure inclusive development. He encouraged state governments to strengthen social investment initiatives, job creation schemes, and community-based empowerment programmes targeted at women, youths, and disadvantaged families. The President also highlighted the importance of unity and tolerance in governance, commending governors for their cooperation with the Federal Government in addressing economic and security challenges. Governors under the platform of the Nigeria Governors' Forum were present at the meeting, where discussions reportedly focused on strengthening federal-state collaboration and accelerating development at subnational levels. Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and improving living standards, urging state leaders to align their policies with efforts to reduce poverty and expand opportunities for all Nigerians.
