Nigeria and the UK are updating their migration MoU to ensure lawful and efficient travel. The deal aims to boost security and economic ties between the two nations. It refreshes a long-standing partnership on international standards.
Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and British High Commissioner Dr. Richard Montgomery finalized the plan in Abuja. They highlighted two decades of successful cooperation on migration justice.
Emphasizing the alliance, Tunji-Ojo stated, “Migration management remained a shared responsibility and a critical pillar of Nigeria’s strategic security partnership with the United Kingdom.”
Nigeria is modernizing its immigration and passport systems to support the new agreement. These reforms aim to facilitate legitimate travel while maintaining national security.
The government seeks to balance border control with economic growth to attract global investors. This strategy is a key part of Nigeria’s broader economic reform agenda.
High Commissioner Montgomery praised Nigeria’s professional approach and clear policy direction. Both nations expect the new framework to streamline bilateral relations and migration flow.
