Adamawa Lawmaker Abubakar Abdullahi Quits PDP

Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, representing Girei Constituency, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His resignation letter was read by Speaker Bathya Wesley during the Adamawa State House of Assembly plenary on Tuesday.
The Speaker formally accepted the notice and wished the lawmaker well.
The lawmaker cited the PDP’s deepening internal crisis and instability as the primary reason for his exit. He explained that the party’s current direction made it impossible for him to continue his membership, highlighting a growing trend of dissatisfaction among political leaders in the state.
Expressing his disappointment, Abdullahi stated:“After many years of fruitful journey as a committed member of the PDP, it pains me that the party has elected to self-destruct at the national level.”
This sentiment has resonated with several other party members currently weighing their options.
His departure appears to be the start of a major exodus. Reports from the Speaker’s office suggest that at least five more lawmakers are expected to resign during Wednesday’s session. This potential mass defection threatens to fundamentally shift the legislative balance of power in Adamawa.
This move follows the recent resignation of Senator Binos Yaroe, who also blamed the party’s “fractured state” for his departure. While Abdullahi hasn’t named a new party yet, his exit marks a significant loss for the PDP in the North-East region ahead of future elections.
Analysts predict these high-profile exits could trigger a massive political realignment. As the “self-destruction” continues, the state’s political landscape is rapidly transforming. All eyes are now on tomorrow’s plenary session to see the full extent of the looming wave of defections.
