Troops Foil Lakurawa Ambush on GOC Convoy in Kebbi, Recover Arms

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

A convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, repelled a deadly ambush near Mayama Hill, Kebbi State, on Monday.

The engagement resulted in the neutralization of five terrorists suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group.

The assailants opened fire from a forested area while the GOC was traveling to visit frontline troops. Responding with overwhelming firepower, the military escort successfully foiled the attack, forcing the remaining insurgents to flee into the woods.

Following the skirmish, a sweep of the terrain led to the recovery of a massive weapons cache. This included an OJC gun, a PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles, and several rounds of specialized 12.7mm ammunition.

Beyond weaponry, the troops seized five motorcycles, mobile phones, and a camel bag containing ₦840,000. These items represent a significant blow to the insurgents’ local logistics and financial resources in the North West.

Reflecting on the encounter, security sources noted, “The convoy responded swiftly with overwhelming force, foiling the ambush and disrupting the attackers’ plans… sending a strong deterrent message to insurgent groups.”

Troops remain stationed in the Mayama Hill axis to maintain security and prevent further terrorist activity. This successful defense underscores the military’s high state of readiness in the ongoing Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
