Odinkalu Slams Opposition Leaders Over Failed Alliance

Human rights lawyer, Chidi Odinkalu has criticized Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi for failing to unite against the ruling party. He described the opposition as fragmented and ineffective, leaving Nigerians without a credible alternative to the current administration.
Odinkalu argued that personal ambitions have consistently overshadowed the national interest. This lack of cohesion, he believes, has allowed the APC to consolidate power and weaken Nigeria’s democratic checks and balances without facing any significant challenge.
During his critique, Odinkalu lashed out at the current state of political leadership. He stated, “It’s a disgrace. There’s no opposition in Nigeria. What we have are people who are interested in their own ego and their own pockets.”
He noted that the 2023 elections offered a prime opportunity for a coalition that was ultimately squandered by individual egos. This division, according to Odinkalu, was the decisive factor that handed victory to the ruling party.
The legal expert lamented that these figures only become vocal when their personal interests are at stake. He criticized them for failing to maintain a consistent “shadow government” that holds the presidency accountable for economic and security failures.
Odinkalu warned that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state due to this leadership vacuum. He urged citizens to demand a more principled and unified movement to safeguard the country’s democratic future from total collapse.
