Mexican Army Kills ‘El Mencho,’ World’s Most Wanted Drug Lord

Mexican troops have reportedly killed Nemesio Oseguera, the CJNG leader known as “El Mencho.”
As one of the world’s most wanted men, he carried a $15 million bounty for heading the hyper-violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
The operation centered on Tapalpa, Jalisco, the cartel’s primary base. This strike represents the biggest blow to organized crime since the high-profile arrests of Sinaloa cartel founders “El Chapo” and Ismael Zambada.
Retaliatory violence erupted as cartel members torched vehicles to block roads across Jalisco and Michoacán. These “narcobloqueos” are a signature defense tactic used to disrupt military movements and protect high-value leadership.
Classified as a terrorist group by the US, the CJNG is a major supplier of fentanyl, heroin, and meth. Their operations are a primary driver of the ongoing narcotics and overdose crisis across the American border.
Major news outlets have reported the death, though a formal government confirmation is still pending. The timing is critical as Jalisco prepares for the 2026 World Cup, necessitating increased regional stability.
While Oseguera’s death is a major victory, authorities fear it may trigger a violent internal power struggle.
Federal forces remain on high alert to contain any immediate fallout or territorial wars.
