APC’s Joshua Ishaku Wins Bwari Chairmanship After Court Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Joshua Ishaku of the APC as the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election. 

The announcement came early Sunday morning following the local government polls conducted across the Federal Capital Territory.

Ishaku secured 18,466 votes to claim the seat, comfortably outperforming his closest rivals. The candidate from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate earned 3,515.

The election covered 10 wards, including key areas like Kubwa, Dutse, and Bwari Central. This victory reinforces the APC’s footprint in the capital’s suburban districts after a highly competitive and closely monitored race.

Ishaku’s win follows a major legal triumph, occurring just one week after the Supreme Court affirmed him as the party’s lawful candidate. The apex court had overturned a lower court’s decision, ensuring his place on the ballot.

The returning officer, Mohammed Nurudeen, finalized the electoral process by confirming the APC’s success.

The declaration marked the official end of the collation process for the Bwari council chairmanship.

With this result, the APC regains control of the council from the PDP. This victory is seen as a significant political achievement for the party, successfully translating its recent legal momentum into a win at the polls.
