2023 Akwa Ibom ADC Guber Candidate Declares Support for Tinubu

Ezekiel Nya-Etok, the 2023 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Nya-Etok also pledged support for Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The architect-turned-politician made his position known in a public statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday morning, describing his decision as “reasoned and performance-based.”

Mr Nya-Etok currently serves as Executive Director of Estate Services at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), a position he was appointed to by President Tinubu on 16 February 2024. At the time of his appointment, he remained a member of the ADC.

He explained that he resigned from the ADC in July 2024, five months after assuming office and chose to function as a non-partisan public officer. He formally joined the APC in December 2025 after what he described as careful consideration of the Tinubu administration’s governance direction.

“I did not join immediately because I live by conviction. Every public decision I make must be one I can explain clearly, rationally and respectfully to the people I serve,” he said.

Mr Nya-Etok announced plans to host a political consultation meeting on 21 February 2026 in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area to formally endorse President Tinubu for a second term, Governor Eno for re-election, and Mr Akpabio for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District seat.

He stated that the gathering would take the form of a structured town hall session rather than a conventional rally. Delegates drawn from the 48 villages in Ikot Ekpene are expected to participate.

The meeting, he said, would outline “clear, data-driven, performance-based reasons” for each endorsement, while also providing room for questions and dialogue before participants return to their communities.

Mr Nya-Etok’s endorsement comes amid shifting alliances within the opposition landscape. The ADC has recently attracted prominent political figures, including the first and second runners-up in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, along with their supporters.

In Akwa Ibom, former senator John Akpanudoedehe, who contested the 2023 governorship election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), resigned from the NNPP last year and joined the ADC.

With these developments, the ADC has strengthened its profile as a key opposition platform nationally, even as defections and endorsements continue to reshape party alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
