Prominent APC leader and grassroots strategist, JJ Adamu Wakali, popularly known as “Coach JJ,”has called for a more structured approach to voter mobilization following the conduct of the FCT Area Council elections.Â
Speaking with our reporter during the polls, the party chieftain emphasized that elections require more than just logistical preparation; they require active presence.
Coach JJ advised top political leaders to reconsider their approach to election days. He suggested that leaders should converge at key points specifically for the purpose of organization and mobilization.
According to him, the physical presence and strategic coordination of top-tier leaders are essential to driving voters to the polling units and ensuring a seamless electoral flow.
When questioned about the inclusivity and representation of various political parties at the polling centers, Adamu provided a candid assessment. He noted that several parties, including the APC, ZLP, and ADC, were visibly well-represented by their agents and supporters. However, he pointedly remarked that he could not say the same for the PDP, suggesting a lack of visible presence from the main opposition in certain areas.
On the subject of potential friction at the polls, the reporter asked if there had been any disputes among party agents.
Adamu maintained a cautious stance, stating, “I don’t know, not yet.” His response indicated that while the atmosphere remained calm during the time of the interview, observers were staying vigilant as the counting process approached.
While expressing overall satisfaction with the orderliness of the exercise, Coach JJ did not hide his concern regarding the number of participants.
He admitted that while the process was technically sound, the turnout remained low. This observation echoes concerns from other stakeholders about voter apathy in local council elections compared to national polls.
