FCT Area Council Elections: Voting Begins Smoothly in AMAC

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Voting for the FCT Area Council elections began Saturday at Polling Unit 18 in AMAC. Residents arrived early to participate in the local leadership selection process, signaling a prompt start to the exercise.

The process officially kicked off at 9:05 a.m. after electoral officials finalized the voter register. Party agents also completed their mandatory verification of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines before voting commenced.

The voting process has been reported as smooth and efficient. Effective BVAS performance has allowed for quick voter accreditation, successfully preventing the long queues and delays seen in previous electoral cycles.

A heavy security presence is on-site to protect voters and electoral materials. Personnel from the Police, NSCDC, and Correctional Service are strategically positioned to maintain order and ensure a peaceful environment.

The NSCDC has specifically warned its deployed officers against unprofessional conduct or accidental discharges. This mobilization is part of a wider effort to ensure residents can vote safely across the capital.

High turnout is expected to continue across the FCT’s six area councils throughout the day. The successful start in AMAC serves as a positive benchmark for the election of local chairmen and councillors.
