Ebenezer Alabi Deserts Aiyedatiwa’s Camp over Ondo APC Crisis

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Hon. Ebenezer Alabi has resigned as the Akure North Coordinator for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s “Renewed Hope Ambassadors”, citing the “inhuman treatment” of APC State Chairman Ade Adetimehin and other party elders as the primary reason for his exit.

The resignation follows a violent attack by hoodlums on the state party secretariat on February 17. Alabi described the assault on elder statesmen as “shameful and alarming,” noting that the incident made it impossible for him to serve the Governor’s camp with dignity.

Violence further escalated during ward congresses on February 18, leading to reported deaths and injuries.

Alabi stated that “continuing to work under Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa’s camp would not guarantee respect for himself or for party members,” prompting his decision to withdraw.

In a strategic shift, Alabi has formally aligned himself with Engr. Ade Adetimehin’s faction. He emphasized his principled stance, stating that his loyalty remains with the party’s established leadership rather than any group linked to “political violence.”

Despite leaving the Governor’s camp, Alabi remains an active APC member. He reaffirmed his dedication to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, expressing his “readiness to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under a peaceful and secure political environment.”

This defection highlights a deepening rift within the Ondo APC. Alabi’s move weakens the Governor’s local influence and signals growing discontent, as he noted that his resignation was a “principled stance against political violence, not a retreat from active politics.”
