The Nigeria Police Force (Zone 11) has arrested Saheed Ajibola, an Amotekun officer in Ibadan, for allegedly leading a criminal syndicate.
He faces serious charges of gun running, illegal arms sales, and forgery.
Investigations suggest Ajibola sold prohibited firearms to unauthorized individuals for criminal activities. He is also accused of forging police licenses to bypass the 2018 federal ban on firearm issuance.
Police PRO Ade Ogunyemi noted that Ajibola had been evading arrest for a long time. Alongside his capture, three other suspects were detained, and a barrel gun was recovered as evidence.
Oyo State Amotekun Commandant, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd.), condemned the “Gestapo-like” arrest. He criticized the use of plainclothes officers and unmarked vehicles, calling the approach uncivil and dangerous.
The Amotekun leadership expressed disappointment over the breach of inter-agency protocols. They stated that the operative was taken while on duty without any prior coordination or official notice to the corps.
While police maintain the operation followed due process, Amotekun is calling for better collaboration. As of the report, the security network was still awaiting formal documentation regarding the specific charges.
