NBTE Approves Seven ND Programmes for Kebbi Health College

by Momodu Favour

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved seven National Diploma (ND) programmes for the Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, in what has been described as a landmark achievement for the institution.

The newly accredited programmes include ND Public Health Technology, ND Environmental Health Technology, ND Community Health Technology, ND Health Information Management, ND Medical Laboratory Technology, ND Health Education and Promotion, as well as one additional approved programme.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Magaji Abdullahi, announced the development on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, describing the approval as an “unprecedented moment” in the college’s history.

According to Abdullahi, the accreditation followed a successful resource verification and advisory visit by the NBTE in December 2025, which assessed the institution’s facilities, staffing, and academic readiness.

The exercise paved the way for the formal commencement of the diploma programmes.

“This is an unprecedented moment in the history of Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, as we proudly announce the approval to commence seven National Diploma programmes from the National Board for Technical Education,” he said.

He attributed the milestone to the commitment and support of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, commending the governor for prioritising education and institutional development in the state.

Abdullahi noted that the Governing Council worked assiduously to reposition the college for national recognition, putting an end to what he described as an era in which students enrolled without certainty of graduating with nationally recognised certificates.

“With this approval, our graduates can now advance through Direct Entry into B.Sc. programmes or proceed to Higher National Diploma studies. This is a new chapter for our students and the state,” he added.

The council chairman emphasised the need for sustained diligence to maintain accreditation standards. He urged the institution’s management to recruit qualified academic and technical staff, strengthen its organisational framework, and ensure continuous compliance with NBTE guidelines to secure future accreditations.

The approval is expected to boost enrolment, enhance the college’s academic profile, and contribute to the training of skilled health professionals to meet the growing healthcare needs of Kebbi State and beyond.
