UK Police Arrest Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Misconduct Probe

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Former UK royal, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The arrest occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026, following a “thorough assessment” by law enforcement.

Thames Valley Police confirmed the suspect, a man in his 60s from Norfolk, is currently in custody. While official guidelines prevent police from naming him, major UK news outlets have identified the individual as the former prince.

Search warrants are being executed at multiple properties across Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the investigation.

Authorities are working with partners to gather evidence related to the alleged public office offences.

The case has been declared “active,” meaning strict legal rules now apply to media reporting. This is intended to ensure the objectivity of the investigation and prevent any potential contempt of court.

Assistant Chief Constable, Oliver Wright stated: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.” He pledged to provide updates as the case develops.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed the situation, urging the former royal to cooperate fully with investigators. The arrest follows the stripping of Andrew’s titles last year due to his controversial past associations.

Public interest in the case remains exceptionally high as forensic teams continue their work at the searched addresses.

This development marks a historic moment in the legal scrutiny of former members of the British monarchy.
