Yobe Assembly Probes Healthcare Misconduct, Doctor Shortages

The Yobe State House of Assembly has formed an ad-hoc committee to investigate reports of misconduct by healthcare practitioners.
This follows numerous public complaints regarding unprofessional behavior in hospitals across the state.
Speaker, Chiroma Buba Mashio announced the probe during Tuesday’s plenary session. The investigation aims to identify cases of negligence and ensure medical staff maintain required professional standards.
The committee is also mandated to evaluate current staffing levels in health facilities. Lawmakers seek to determine if a shortage of qualified doctors is hindering medical service delivery.
Deputy Speaker Ya’u Usman Dachia will lead the six-member investigative team. The Speaker noted that despite government progress in the health sector, these public concerns require urgent solutions.
The House also gave accelerated consideration to a bill establishing the State Senior Secondary Education Board. The bill passed its second reading and was referred to the education committee for further action.
Two additional executive bills were received regarding urban planning and social welfare. These aim to establish an Urban and Regional Planning Authority and a State Waqf Board.
