The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched efforts to establish contact with Mirabel Obidi, the young woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by a neighbour in a viral video posted on TikTok.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency confirmed it was aware of the video circulating widely on social media, where Obidi, visibly distressed, recounted her ordeal and appealed for help.
“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has taken note of the multiple tags and public concerns regarding a video currently circulating on social media, in which a young woman shared her experience of sexual assault at her residence on her TikTok page,” the statement read.
The agency disclosed that its team had commenced outreach efforts through available communication channels to offer immediate support and intervention, as well as to ascertain her location.
“We want to state clearly that we have seen the reports and we are actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention and ascertain the location. Our team has initiated contact through available channels and will continue efforts to establish communication,” the DSVA said.
It also appealed to members of the public who may have useful information that could help establish direct contact with Obidi to reach out through the agency’s verified social media platforms.
In the video posted on Monday, Obidi, speaking through tears, described the alleged assault and its emotional toll, stating that she felt overwhelmed and broken following the incident.
She further revealed that she had ingested a harmful substance in distress and was rushed to the hospital by a friend for medical attention. She also spoke about struggling emotionally in the aftermath of the alleged attack.
Reiterating the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on domestic and sexual violence, the agency emphasised that survivors deserve protection, care, support and justice.
The DSVA encouraged other survivors of abuse to come forward, assuring that all reports are handled with strict confidentiality and urgency.
Members of the public can contact the agency through its dedicated helplines — 0813-796-0048 and 08000-333-333 — via WhatsApp AI Chatbox on 0812-893-7058, or through its official website at ekoselfreport.ng.
The agency said it would provide further updates as outreach and investigative efforts progress.
