FG to Establish Fire Stations in All 109 Senatorial Districts

The Federal Government has finalized plans to build fire stations in all 109 senatorial districts nationwide. This initiative aims to improve emergency response times, enhance public safety, and better protect national assets from fire disasters.

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Dr. Olumode Samuel-Adeyemi, announced the move during an assessment of the Singer Market fire in Kano.

He emphasized that expanding the service’s footprint is key to mitigating future economic losses.

A dedicated fire post will be established within the Singer Market following two devastating outbreaks in just weeks. This localized station is intended to curb recurring incidents and ensure immediate intervention within the busy commercial hub.

Dr. Samuel-Adeyemi identified faulty wiring and unsafe fuel storage as major fire causes while pleading with the public to give fire trucks right-of-way.

He noted that despite a 20-minute response time in Kano, obstructions delayed actual firefighting efforts.

To solve water supply issues, the government plans to construct dedicated reservoirs in major markets across the country. Additionally, the Fire Service will collaborate with the Police and Civil Defence for better crowd control during emergencies.

An amendment to the Fire Service Act is currently underway to strengthen enforcement powers. Once passed, the service will have the legal authority to seal off premises that fail to meet mandatory fire safety standards.
