Labour Party Crisis Deepens as Nenadi Usman, Abure Clash Over Arrest Calls

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Labour Party leadership tussle escalated as the Nenadi Usman-led committee demanded the arrest of former chairman Julius Abure.

This follows an alleged criminal invasion of the party’s Abuja national secretariat.

The new leadership accused Abure’s loyalists of attacking the premises and threatening officials. They claimed that sensitive items, including financial records and laptops, were stolen during a 30-minute raid.

Usman’s faction reported the destruction of billboards and has petitioned the police and DSS. They are seeking prosecution for Abure on charges of criminal invasion, contempt of court, and impersonation.

Abure’s camp dismissed the claims as “fallacious,” denying any wrongdoing. They argued that no formal handover occurred and that the leadership dispute remains a subject of ongoing litigation in the appellate courts.

The Abure faction countered by alleging that unidentified persons illegally entered the secretariat at night to swap billboards.

They maintain that Usman has no legal right to the office until a final court ruling.

Demanding swift legal action, Senator Nenadi Usman stated, “We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of Julius Abure and others for criminal invasion, contempt of court, impersonation, and threats to constitutional democracy in Nigeria.”
