Bello El-Rufai Rejects Calls to Dump APC
A member of the House of Representatives, Bello El-Rufai, has dismissed growing social media calls urging him to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that his political allegiance remains with the ruling party and the people who elected him.
Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency, made his position known in response to online comments suggesting he should defect ahead of the 2027 general elections. The lawmaker insisted that his mandate comes from his constituents, not from social media commentators, stressing that any major political decision would be guided by the interests of the electorate. He reaffirmed that his primary loyalty is to the voters of Kaduna North who entrusted him with the mandate to represent them at the National Assembly. Bello noted that his victory in the last general election was decisive, emphasizing that he secured widespread support across the constituency’s wards — a mandate he said he would not betray. The federal lawmaker also addressed speculation about internal political dynamics in Kaduna State, especially in relation to his father, former governor Nasir El-Rufai. While acknowledging his respect for his father, Bello stated that he remains committed to the APC and would not take steps that undermine party unity. He further pledged loyalty to the leadership of Kaduna State under Governor Uba Sani, describing the governor as his political leader in the state and reiterating his commitment to work in alignment with the state’s APC structure. Political observers say Bello’s public declaration comes amid rising conversations about possible realignments within Kaduna politics ahead of 2027. However, his latest statement appears aimed at putting to rest rumours of an imminent defection.
