Army Signals Holds Lagos WASA, Celebrates Culture, Professional Excellence

The Nigerian Army Signals on February 14, 2026, hosted its combined 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) alongside affiliated formations at the Signals Operations Command Parade Ground, Mile 2, Lagos, in a colourful ceremony that highlighted cultural heritage, unity and operational professionalism.

The event brought together senior officers, serving and retired personnel, and dignitaries from various sectors. Activities included cultural displays, comedy performances, musical renditions, talent exhibitions and a tug of war competition, reflecting the Army’s tradition of fostering cohesion and esprit de corps.

The Special Guest of Honour and Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, Major General Collins Adetoba, described WASA as a longstanding tradition of the Nigerian Army that promotes unity, cultural diversity and shared heritage while strengthening national cohesion.

He stated that the unity cultivated through such gatherings contributes to improved operational effectiveness.

Adetoba commended the Corps of Signals for its professionalism, innovation and dependable communication support to military operations across the country. He urged personnel to remain adaptive and technologically driven in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which seeks to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

He stressed the importance of advanced communication systems, robust cyber capabilities and enhanced inter-agency collaboration in addressing evolving security threats.

The senior officer also acknowledged the sacrifices of officers, soldiers and their families, paid tribute to fallen heroes, and appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his strategic leadership and sustained support to troops.

Earlier, the Commander Corps of Signals and Chief Host, Major General Tanimu Abdullahi, welcomed guests and traced the history of WASA to 1901 under the West African Frontier Force, highlighting its enduring relevance in strengthening cohesion and shared identity within the Army. He noted that despite demanding operational engagements in 2025, the Corps remained resilient and effective as the communications backbone of the Nigerian Army.

Abdullahi also appreciated the support of families, sister services, security agencies and the host community in sustaining the Corps’ operational success.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Colonel Anthony Ogbu, expressed gratitude to the Special Guest of Honour, senior officers, distinguished guests and families for attending the ceremony.

He commended the Chief of Army Staff for his commitment to troops’ welfare and professionalism and acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, cultural performers and members of the organising committee to the success of the event.

He concluded with prayers for continued unity and regimental spirit within the Nigerian Army.
