Abba Yusuf Sacks Buba Galadima as Kano Polytechnic Governing Council Chairman
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has relieved Buba Galadima of his position as Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who explained that the move forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning state-owned tertiary institutions for improved governance, transparency, and academic excellence. According to the statement, the action aligns with the administration’s broader development framework, popularly known as the “Kano First Agenda,” which focuses on strengthening public institutions and enhancing service delivery across key sectors, including education. Galadima, a veteran politician and engineer, had been appointed to serve a three-year term as chairman of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council. However, his tenure was cut short as part of what the government described as a restructuring process intended to consolidate reforms within the institution. No allegations of misconduct were mentioned in the announcement. The state government expressed appreciation for Galadima’s contributions during his time in office and wished him well in his future endeavors. In his place, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, the Emir of Gaya, as the new Chairman of the Governing Council. The appointment takes immediate effect. The government said the new appointee is expected to bring his administrative experience and leadership capacity to bear in strengthening institutional stability and driving improvements in academic and administrative standards. Kano State Polytechnic is one of the largest state-owned tertiary institutions in northern Nigeria, offering programmes in engineering, science, technology, management, and other professional disciplines. The governing council plays a crucial role in policy formulation, financial oversight, and strategic direction of the institution. While the state government described the development as an administrative decision tied to reform efforts, political observers note that Galadima is widely regarded as an ally of former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. However, no official statement linked the removal to political considerations. The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening educational institutions across the state and ensuring that they operate efficiently in line with global best practices.
