Two Caught Siphoning ₦12m Worth of Diesel in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested Yusuf Mutiyat, 43, and Ogunniyan Rasheed, 64, for the alleged theft of diesel valued at ₦12 million.
The incident took place at the Kopek Construction Company site in Ibadan.
Operatives from the Monitoring Unit caught the suspects red-handed while they were siphoning the fuel from a mixer truck.
The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public who provided credible intelligence to the police.
During the operation, officers recovered 24 barrels of the stolen liquid, each containing 240 litres. In total, approximately 10,000 litres of diesel were intercepted before the suspects could move the product.
Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna praised the officers for their professionalism and the community for its support. He noted that such collaboration is vital for maintaining security and protecting property in the state.
The Commissioner reiterated the command’s dedication to curbing crime and ensuring the safety of businesses in Oyo State.
He emphasized that the police would continue to act swiftly on reports of criminal activity.
Both suspects are currently in custody while investigations proceed to identify any other collaborators. The police are working to determine if the duo is part of a larger syndicate specializing in industrial theft.
